About Denise Montell

Denise Montell studies dynamic cell behaviors such as collective migration, cell engulfment and recovery from extreme stress. Born in Jackson, MS, raised in New Orleans, she earned a B.A. from UCSD & Ph.D. from Stanford. After a postdoc with Allan Spradling, she was a faculty member at Johns Hopkins for 20 years before joining UCSB in 2013. She is married to Craig Montell. Their daughter Amanda Montell is an author and podcaster. Son Brandon Montell is a software engineer at Pixar.
